What drill speed are you running? We used to drill out titanium bolts all the time no problem, low speed no lube/oil.sounds like you’re doing things right, 3/32 ish to start and work your way up, then easy out or lefty bit.

What sort of gas lens is that???? Stick on a stock ceramic and see if there is a difference. I’d say a crap lens is the problem. How much gas are you running??

Re: How to confirm Argon is contaminated
some gas lenses are absolute rubbish, I’d try with a standard set up( no gas lens) and see if there is any improvement, then if there is buy a good lens kit. I’ve tried a few that work on friends machines no problems and work like crap on mine. Worth a try?

[quote="noddybrian"]The pyrex gas lens looks like the generic Ebay / Chinesium kind ( could be wrong ) - if so that maybe the problem - I don't understand why but they just don't seem to work - no logical reason - they flow gas & don't leak so should ! if you have the same results with...

Re: How do I in f@#$ this......
The connection can be repaired, but you'll obviously need to make sure the Dinse connector is reusable first. If you don't have a hose repair kit (many welding supply houses sell them) you might persuade a shop that makes Hydraulic hoses to crimp that back together for you. I am fortunate that ther...

How do I in f@#$ this......
So, while I was grinding back an aluminium crossmember on a trailer, the clamp let go and it fell in front of my tig, snapping the gas spigot and cutting the hose on the torch lead, this is right beside the dinse connector on the machine.... can i fix this or is this a new hose??? Never messed with ...

Not silicon deposits from the wire? Can it be removed with a wire brush? Flick up a pic if you can mate. I think running hot can cause silicon deposits? Someone here will know better than me, I’m just a hack!!

Re: New to the board, here to soak up your knowledge
Should be plenty of amps, each machines different, on that thickness for me I’d be at 70-80 amps. I’d wind the balance back so you get more penetration, i run mine about 3 (1-10 on my machine) what have you got your frequency at? Others with more experience will chime in i hope, just going off my exp...

Hey there, whats the plan with a different foot pedal? Do you have it already, or is it a readily available? Otherwise, the yanks are super keen on foot pedals, and I do believe you can order one from certain places with the connection required. Ssc controls is very good I hear. Never used a foot p...

Re: 7 pin foot pedal question
Typically, the wiring scheme dictates the number of used wires in a plug. If you can drum up the original schematic for the machine and a pedal compatible, you can adapt about any other pedal to it. You may have to change plugs on the pedal you buy to suit the machine's input. The 7 pin connector o...

Re: TIG torches etc... so many options?!
Nice, I’ve got an SML alto, don’t play anymore but can’t bring myself to let it go1!!!!! I think most twigs are shipped with a wp17 torch as standard?? I like the wp9 as it is smaller and still runs enough amps for most jobs. Ive got a 200 amp A/C machine and love the WP9 torch.

Good call on the flange nuts, ill try that next time!homeboy wrote:One thing I found very handy for set screw bolts as in your stand is to use "flair nuts" with the built in washer. Lots of meat to weld even down to 1/4 in. Less chance of blowing thru to the threads in the smaller sizes.
