Re: New everything and, yes, help needed

The bottle is for sure 100% Argon? I once had a guy try to give me 75/25 because he thought it was “better” for tig welding. Don’t get filled there any more. I very much doubt gas bottle colors are consistent throughout the country and especially the world but here, the 75/25 is always painted silve...

Re: New everything and, yes, help needed

Is this latest test with, or without filler? The beads show a lack of cleaning by your machine (the oxide layer is not completely dissolved and moved out of the weld area) and insufficient amps still. What settings was the machine when you did these passes? If the material is 1/8", please try:...

Re: New everything and, yes, help needed

After watching a ton of videos, I stopped worrying about contaminated tungsten. My best results have been with using a 120 grit belt on my belt grinder. I use a drill and run it backwards. This gives a very smooth grind and small grooves. I also stopped blunting the tip. I let it ball on its own whi...

Re: New everything and, yes, help needed

I had a very similar problem with the same machine. After watching a TON of Jody's videos, I found that I had my Argon flow WAY too high. I have been having good success with a no. 7 gas lens at about 12 CFH. On thicker than 1/8", I also followed his suggestions and got some He. I set the Ar at...

5 lb propane holder for camping.

Not really a necessary thing but I’m trying to practice TIG every chance I get. I’m also happier having the tank outside the car because once you can smell it up front, there is already a decent amount inside and I’m not too partial to blowing up. I built the rear bumper and tire carrier about 5 yea...

Re: New Aluminium Welder Woes

I mentioned it because in your picture it looks like it’s set on 4T. Could just be the shadow.

Re: New Aluminium Welder Woes

Have you tried it in 2T with the foot pedal, and no pulse? 2T with the foot pedal is a bit more intuitive for starting. I've never messed with a machine that can do 4T, but most of the intro videos that I've seen are geared toward using a foot pedal in 2T operation. Just a thought. I've read a numbe...

Seems like his is reverse, so that would be about 30? He said he went from 10-50 with no noticeable difference. I assume that would be comparable to 50-90 ?

Just guessing.

Thank you both very much! It sounds like I need to get my flow settled out. That is very helpful!

trouble shooting a helium mix

New member here, and I apologize if this has been beaten to death and I just haven't read enough yet. I searched for helium argon mix problems, but the first couple pages were more about suggesting people use a mix rather than troubleshooting the mix. I'm also a hobbyist trying to learn more, so I m...

Hello from Denver, CO

Hello, I'm a new member from Denver, Colorado. I'm a hobbyist who has been muddling through learning to weld for the past 15 years, and finally stumbled onto the Welding Tips and Tricks youtube channel, website and podcasts, and have been extremely grateful to Jody and everyone involved with this en...
