Re: Submerged arc troubles
No issues today, I think whacking the feed hose with a stick every now and then is the solution to the problem. Thanks all

Re: Submerged arc troubles
Is there a crusher on the intaks of the machine to resize the material being recycled? How much of your flux media has gone ceramic post cool? How far behind the gun is the pickup? Your post seems to indicate the plugging is occurring at the point of the cycle where the media is being redeposited o...

Re: Submerged arc troubles
If it recycles the recovered granular stuff you may be getting chunks that are small enough to fit through a screen but big enough to gunk up the flux feed. Take a sample of what is coming through and make sure it isn't clumpy. Then beat it with a hammer till its dead. I hate flux recovery/feeders....

Submerged arc troubles
Hey there, we are having an issue with our sub arc flux feed and recovery system. The flux feed hose has got clogged on several occasions. The system is made by Weld engineering company, it’s the mighty Mac-x model. We have shortened the hose length. The flux is dry and brand new. If anybody out the...

Downhill Welding
So many times I’ve had people tell me “you can’t run downhill, it’s a crappy weld”. It would be nice to see some etched samples of common applications to clear things up for people. Thanks keep up the great work!

Re: Hardfacing Stellite 6 on 309SS
Is the 600 degree preheat a requirement as per the Welding procedure? The little bit of Stellite I’ve done, we were requied to keep it below 500 degrees.

Re: Copper welding advice needed
Ok, I have no clue what most of that meant, but here’s how we weld copper in my shop. Tig DCEN 1/8 thoriated tungsten, helium shielding gas, deoxidized copper filler rod. Copper is such a good conductor so it takes a lot of heat to weld it. I’ve burned up a few torches doing this. Keep in mind what ...

Re: Tank Construction Career Path
W.C. did you happen to come by that name from spending many hours riding a bosun chair around the windy side of a tank? Should a new guy be told how much fun dogs & wedges are? How about banana bars? Lol, what about shimmying across the roof rafters to unhook the rigging! Now that was fun. You ...

Re: Tank Construction Career Path
I would like to start off by saying hello and this is my first post here. To get to your question, I worked for an above ground tank storage construction company for about 7 years. As far as the work goes it is hard but rewarding. Yes All the tank shell plates are full pen welded. The process varies...
