Re: Auto Darkening Helmet

It has the darkness adjustment knob as well as sensitivity switch on the inside of the helmet. Neither seems to make much difference. It will be fine for a while then gets really light (non-dark?)

Re: Auto Darkening Helmet

Yep I cranked it up on some thick stuff and it worked fine. Is the problem just a cheap helmet or will they all do this at low amps?

Auto Darkening Helmet

I was welding some 3/4" thin wall 4130 tubing the other day and my helmet would "undarken" while welding. It was so bad that I would see spots and had to quit. I assumed that my battery (non replaceable) finally shot craps so I bought another (Harbor Freight). Had the same problems wi...

Re: Cessna Metering Pin P/N 0490001-1

There is no way a DER would sign off on that type of repair. He would need to know the exact composition of the bolt either through analysis or the original drawings. The part would need heat treating after re machining the threads. If it is off a 150 just give White Industries a call and get a serv...

Re: Has Colorado Lost their Minds

To the best of my knowledge there are no apprenticeship programs in the US like the ones mentioned in Canada and Aus. This move by the legislature is not due to protectionism and is only one of the roadblocks. This is politics pure and simple. Despite the fact that the voters resoundingly voted down...

Re: Triple Threat - 4043 vs 4047 vs 4943 vs cast aluminum

I have a lot of experience building Porsche engines and transmissions. Which car are you working on. All of the heads from 356s thru 911 are aluminum and easily welded, with a lot of preheat. Most headwork required and oven, beadblasting and a lot of cleaning. 356 engine cases are aluminum and can b...

Re: Has Colorado Lost their Minds

Depends on how you count the time. The statute calls for documented training. So the question is are you "training" if you don't have direct onsite supervision or are you practicing your trade. So my question still stands are there any weldors with 7000 hours of documented training, not wo...

I have and use the TIG Button (from 6061.com) pretty much exclusively now. Eliminates problems with out of position.

Has Colorado Lost their Minds

Colorado is in the process of banning oil and gas drilling in the state. They don't call it that (SB 181) but that will be the overall effect. One of the amendments to the bill states that oil field welders must have "7000 hours of documented training". This is not work experience this is ...

Re: Anyone ever burnt up a tig finger?

I haven't melted one but I have caught all of them on fire. I know they "don't burn" but they really do and they get hot. I have 3 or 4 and they all do it. I let this one burn itself out.

Re: Lincoln Square Wave tig 200 Scratch Start??

Sorry I didn’t respond sooner for some reason I cannot log in on my computer. It logs me off as soon as I log on. Responding from my phone so excuse the typos. Best I can tell it is the same but lug as my old Square wave 175 but I didn’t use it on that machine. I contacted the 6061 site and confirme...

Re: Lincoln Square Wave tig 200 Scratch Start??

I can assure you that the TIG button from 6061 works with the Square Wave 200. I have one and have not used my foot pedal since I got it. Only problem is that it is a little cobbled/homemade. Consider the battery pack instead of the power cord. I haven’t used the battery pack but might get one. Grea...

Re: Aluminum porridge anyone...

for the Lincoln Square Wave Tig 200 I have found that you must use a gray banded electrode. Green, red and blue do not work. I don't know why but that is what I have discovered.

Re: Can’t get the new welder to do it right

I have same welder and had similar problem with thin (0.050") aluminum. Nothing worked so I finally took it back to the dealer figuring something was wrong with it.The techs looked at each other and smirked. They handed me a gray banded electrode and told me to try it. It worked. With thicker a...

Re: Tungsten problems

It is absolutely possible to have "dipped" it so much that the tungsten needs to be cut back. This is especially true with aluminum. Just grind it all the way back to clean material and start over.

Re: Dirty Weld and bubbles in it.

Hello this is my first post to this Forum. I found it after having difficulties welding aluminum with my Lincoln Square Wave Tig 200. I upgraded to this machine from the old Square Wave 175. I was experiencing the same difficulties are the Original Poster. The difference is that I have welded miles ...
