Unfortuneately even full pen vee butt welds havnt cut it for me :(

You can definately do it but bring alot of patience and contact tips with you. Keep the gun and liner as straight as you can, back the tension off on the drive rolls, try use a larger dia wire like 1.2 or 1.6 and get the aluminium tips- 1.2A (alot of them) I am unfortunate enough to have to use this...
