Re: Dirty Weld and bubbles in it.

If it's bubbled and almost looks like a sponge, it could also be from too much gas flow or possibly, you have a breeze or draft in the area. If the cup you're using has say a 7/16" opening, your CFH rate should be about 12. Turning the gas too high also causes air turbulence at the mouth of the...

Re: Muriatic Acid: 1. Mill Scale: 0

As for the acid... Not sure where people got the impression I was attempting to dilute it. Simply not the case. I was using it full strength. FWIW, the stuff available at Lowes (which is what I happen to have) is a 30% solution. As I recall during my college days, only higher mole fraction solution...

Re: Muriatic Acid: 1. Mill Scale: 0

The PM mill and other equipment in general is fine. The one seen in the background is about 10 years old and has seen countless hours of use while I ran my fabrication business before going into semi-retirement. Matt (from Precision Matthews) is a great guy. I'm a little biased though because, for a...

Re: Cheater lenses

Might want to make sure the outer and inner lens shields on your helmet are clean. The polycarbonate scratches easily and gets permanently fogged-up pretty fast. I change mine quite frequently and the difference in visual quality between the old and new lens covers is significant. BTW: Don't get rip...

Muriatic Acid: 1. Mill Scale: 0

Finally, after a couple decades, I built a dedicated bench for welding. In the past, I used the floor or rigged a makeshift table from saw-horses. Now I know how caveman felt after inventing fire, round wheels and cooked meat. Anyhow, I covered the top with a piece of 11ga HR and found myself strugg...

Re: New line of Harbor Freight welders

Hi Folks... I picked-up a Harbor Freight Vulcan MIGMAX 215 a couple weeks ago. It's my first MIG machine and I'm new to MIG welding; however, I've been using a couple other welders for a few years. About 5 years ago, I bought an Everlast 205S multi-process machine and taught myself how to TIG weld. ...

Hi. New to MIG

Hi. I'm Ray C and I'm new to MIG but am pretty advanced at screwing-up stick and TIG welding. I talked myself into getting a MIG unit and went with the HF/Vulcan MIGMAX 215. It seems pretty nice but I have nothing to compare it to. I manually mapped-out the IPM speeds and usually use manual settings...
