Re: Cold Saw blades

Fly, the Evolution Metal Blade made by Evolution is a good value blade. It is much tougher than the multi-purpose blade but must be purchased separately. There are probably a host of other good 10" cold blades as well by other vendors. https://www.amazon.com/Evolution-Power-Tools-10BLADEST-52-T...

Welding positioner, kind of

It is not mine, and I'm in no way affiliated, but wanted to bring something unique to the attention of New England welders. There's a roto-grind for sale for $700 on Craiglist. Basically, this is a machining weight rotary holder, like a welding positioner. Probably a good deal if you're in the market...

Re: For you machinists...

Steve, you may be right on the whole, taking into account the entire population and all endeavors.
I tend to think scientists fall on the 'ready to believe, with evidence' side of that curve.

Re: For you machinists...

Steve, but your theory has the narrative I mentioned. It isn't coming out of vacuum because you want it to be true, even if you do. Your footings are based in a heritage of scientific background going back quite far. That heritage welcomes challenge, in opposition to the comment made by noddybrian. ...

Re: For you machinists...

Wow - this has to be the strangest " off topic " yet ! clearly there are some great minds here being used at less than their true potential in their current jobs - not sure if the academic community is ready to be challenged by alternate theories of space / time / gravity yet - they tend ...

Re: Cutting L-angle and feel stupid lol

Another strength trick for corners with angle iron is to Drill inside the flange exactly where the corner would be On the plane which is not changing. Next, notch up to the drill Hole but don't cut through. Then, bend the angle into the plane which will have the Angle. Last, weld where the notches c...

Re: Is Jody at risk?

Yes, seems like outright bans are uncommon.
The ones that have been banned seem deserving. e.g. Alex Jones isn't harmless and his 'news' isn't.

Re: Is Jody at risk?

Why do you believe Jody might be at risk? His videos are well edited, apolitical and focused. His advertising is minimal and unintrusive. He doesn't spout to hear his own voice and discusses first hand experience from his varied career. Taken in whole, this is a recipe for success. If he chose to di...

Re: Question on repairing bench vise

Thanks folks. I'll try a spark test, however, it seems I might be better off drilling then brazing
Regardless of the results, right. Just better to fill and drill.
Should I use bronze filler for the braze?

Question on repairing bench vise

The flange on a vise I picked up has cracked off on the mounting flange, across one of the through bolt holes. My question is, what is a good way to approach the repair? It is a cast material, unsure of specific alloy. I have the following welding means available; 1. an oxy/acetylene torch 2. 110V M...

Re: Welding Supply - Specifically first gas purchase

I am paying $50/year lease on a 125ft3 Argon bottle and $50 for a 125ft3 C25 bottle.
Each tank would have cost ~$200 new and I'd be on the hook for the testing.
I believe the lease is reasonable for me as a hobbyist.
They each only cost about $35 to fill at the same LWS.

So, I had a banner week scouring Craiglist.

Just moved and putting together the shop I've not had the space for. Before I go spend any real money, checking Craigslist out for older, cheaper and often better tools and items for the shop. Here's what I scored this week. 1. Anvil, approx. 125lbs, with Hardy and Pritcher holes and custom wood bas...

Very nicely done.

Could you share what you were charged for the sandblasting and zinc-chromate coating? I recently purchased several vices and was going to look into exactly this. thx
