Helium grade (pct) - Minimum for aluminum?
I'm told that the welding suppliers in Colorado (Denver - North) sell "industrial" grade helium, which is also balloon grade, at 99.5% He. Is this pure enough for use with aluminum?? -- I installed a Y on my Square Wave & am "sneaking a little in" like Roy & Jody do -- fl...

Re: AC TIG Machine for use in home garage
Hi OlMac - I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but once you get started with a machine, it's nice to have some extra $ around to use on gas lenses, cups, etc. Following a recommendation from a friend that makes a living with a TIG machine, I recently purchased the Lincoln Square Wave TIG 200 fo...

Re: Outside corners in aluminium, technique question
Hello Clavius, I didn't notice anyone mention settings in the responses I read. I also have a SW200 and am practicing OCJs on aluminum, using only a piece of steel square tubing & some clamps to line up the aluminum sides. So I don't have backing all the way into the inside corner, but there is ...

Re: stick welding cast iron
One of the most important things to consider when welding cast iron is weld prep. How you prepare the surface to be welded will have a great impact on weldability. Rule #1: Never touch cast iron with an abrasive . Most people break this rule, using a grinder to cut a nice groove in a cracked piece o...

Add Miller Coolmate to Square Wave TIG 200
Has anyone added a Coolmate torch cooler to a Lincoln Square Wave 200 ?? I like the feel of the #9 torch, but it's rated 125 amps. I want to weld heavier aluminum and add helium to push the limit of my Square Wave 200 up some, and was thinking of getting a #20 torch (liquid cooled) and adding a Mill...

Re: speed tacking with scratch TIG??
Thank you, Coldman & Oscar. I figured it was something like that - possible, but not recommended/worth it.
This forum is awesome.

speed tacking with scratch TIG??
Is it possible to speed tack like Jody does in his welding rod rack video (http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/tig-welding-rod-rack.html) using a scratch TIG setup & a torch switch? I'm doubtful, but I'd really like to know if it is possible, because it would give me a good use for my Thunderbol...

TIG cup 3AG11 short (or #54N19) - why?
Has anyone tried this cup? Why does it exist? I accidentally got one to use with a standard gas lens for my 3-series (17) torch, thinking it would be a bit smaller than the 3AG12. It looks like it's made for a stubby, but the threads don't match. What's it for?
