I have been grinding mine by hand on my bench grinder rather than loading them in a drill and it works amazingly. I got such a nice point on some 1/16 2% lanthinated it makes a super tiny weld puddle on the steel I was playing around on last night. Thanks.

Re: Accessorize a Noob's TIG Rig

My tungsten arrived. I decided to throw one on the belt grinder. Does this look all right? I held it in a drill, to turn it while I ground it. Kind of surprised it's not completely symmetrical. Those are ok. I do mine by hand on a Harbor Freight 3" mini grinder. http://i169.photobucket.com/alb...

Re: Accessorize a Noob's TIG Rig

My 2017 AHP Alpha TIG will be here tomorrow between 9:15am and 1:15pm. I work from 10am-4pm then class from 5pm-9pm. Planning on getting it set up tomorrow night then start practicing between classes so I can be a better tig welder than anyone else in the class.

Re: Cups and stuff

I have read a lot of them and like said they say "don't walk the cup" but I am looking for a all around great coverage cup that will allow for extended tungsten so I can better help my 8 yeah old little girl learn to TIG by watching me. I don't require a pyrex cup just looking for the best...

Cups and stuff

Does anyone know anything about the #12 Monster Cup that Thecavemanwelder uses? I have seen posts all over instagram and the interwebs of such things but have yet to find any information on where to get them and what they cost. I am also wondering is there a gas lens kit for a pyrex (or similar) for...

2016 model it came with a 17 flex head torch. Definitely not a superflex hose. I bought a number 9 superflex ck from usaweld and soon I'll get the s ssc foot pedal. The stock one Works but it isn't the best and it moves around on you unless you make a base for it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapata...

Re: Classes

If you can get your hands on 3/16" it'd be easier to learn on. But it's do able. Fit up is important for nice welds. Tack them edge to edge so you have a valley to fill. For that thin it's gonna be around 90 amps but it's good practice to set your machine hotter incase you need it. Start a hal...

Re: New Mig for a Newby

Thanks CJ, I appreciate the advice. I may be going in a different direction. Since my friend with the race car already has a MIG, I thought about getting a TIG and hoping I could catch on welding on mild steel and tubing. Probably a tall challenge! Will have to wait and see. Was leaning toward the ...

Re: Classes

I was lucky enough to grow up in a fab shop and bug the welders to teach me and watch them. However I think it really depends on the school. The one around here is junk. I've had 2 or 3 of the students after they graduated and they were untrainable. They always said that's not how we were taught. I...

I have asked that the instructor for the class give me a call so I can ask questions such as how many of the 104 hours are hood time and class time, but have not heard from him and the class starts in about 2 weeks. Classes

Is it worth it to take a class costing $880. Most of the welders I know personally say I will be better off teaching myself the basics and just keep practicing. I have never TIG welded in my life and only have a few hours of FCAW and SMAW under my belt. Would it be worth it to take a 13 week course ...

I will be picking up some solid wire and gas soon to start practicing beads with it. I am hoping to some day eith...
