What would be the best inert gas hose ID for a hose under 10' 3/16 or 1/4 inch?

I see some MIG wire is advertised as copper free. Is there something to be gained by this? Ordering wire online looks like a crapshoot at best. Way to much shipping damage reported.

What's the best way to weld an axle stub to an axle tube? Stub is square and slides in the tube. Drill holes in tube and plug weld, One continuous bead around tube or a series of short welds around the tube?
