wood work mate
3003 is real soft, near gummy. Your best bet would be to use 5052, extremely form-able, easy to cut and weld.

i have 2 tales 48" x 60" x 1" that I would love to have ground. I was expecting something 5x that at least.

Re: Job related weight lifting.
I guess Miller didn't pay attention to the OSHA regulations when they made their Suitcase "portable wire feeder". It's got to weigh 40 lbs alone, then add a 33 lb spool of wire and a 15 lb torch and carry that up a ladder into a crawl space dragging the welding leads behind you. Maybe when...

Re: Welding Ductile Iron Shipping Container Twistlock to Ste
They are made of ductile iron? Just like pipe fittings, yes very weldable. If galvanized, take the zinc layer off with a 40 grit jumbo flap disc. For what you are building a good brazing job will be more than adequate if you have and are good with a torch. That is one old school method I'd like to l...

Re: Pricing Sanitary Welding
One thing to consider when doing anything food processing is to cover the liability involved. If there is a sanitary issue and they ca point the finger at your work, they will. Sanitary work brings up to double the "going rate" for just this reason. I have a good working relationship that ...

I just ordered some Alum Bronz, holy crap that stuff is more expensive than I thought it would be. $15/lb & only a 10 lb box. I have a use for at least 3 lbs of it to save a $850 part on my sheet metal break, so it is worth it.
And I'll try it on aluminum and report back.

Okay, I've been a "professional" welder for about 15 years now and have never heard of using Silly Bronze on aluminum. Am I missing something? If anything, perhaps Alum Bronze, but I have yet to even try that as my LWS would need to order it because they don't keep it in stock. You're rig...

Mark, Why did you use such heavy material to make that ballast box, 14ga would have been more than strong enough to support those weights. Oh, wait, . . . . . . . . never mind. Good job! That wheel barrow cart is brilliant, great job on the steering. Among other things I have rebuilt 2 different sew...

Re: Metal Cutting Disc for Grinder
I was sent a free trial blade and I got all hot and bothered just looking at it. So I dropped my office work and ran into the shop to try it like a little kid on Christmas morning. Well, yes, it cuts steel without ripping all the diamond off the base, that's about it. My opinion was it was worth exa...

Re: Spray painting info needed
I H A T E painting, but will do it if required on a larger job. What I usually end up having to paint has weird contours and hard to get to areas. It usually comes out fairly nice but I'm always disappointed in the results. It's just one of those aspects of the job that I don't enjoy. I don't mean t...

1) bring small weld samples with you.
2) bring your helmet and gloves and be ready to test weld on the spot when you apply.
3) accept a welder's helper job or monotonous little production work, you have to get your foot in the door somehow.

Over Zinc, galvanized metal. Brush all loose stuffs off with a wire wheel or hand brush and weld away. Just remove any paint, scale, or grease. avoid the fum...
