Re: Little help figuring out my restarts on TIG aluminium
Hey guys. If I'm going to be restarting I do like LtBadd said and don't add filler and move about 1/4" ahead and taper off. When I restart I let that soak in for a few seconds and quickly back into the last dab I did and add a drop of filler and move from there. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tap...

On these fillet welds, is it best to start in the middle and work out or start on the outside and work in? Or do you just make one continuous weld? Or does it make any difference? Re: How to minimize etching/frosting on aluminum tig welds
You can switch to number 5 standard collet body cup and run your gas flow at 10-15 cfh. Lower cfh and small cup helps narrow the etch zone. But you can also scotch brite it afterwards.

It sounds like it's blowing out from being sealed. They aren't solid baffles are they? Haha it's probably a mixture of bad torch angle and filler angle or not enough gas flow.

Some roots and caps. Never got to cap the other two welds they said they might have to cut it apart. Gotta love engineers! Oh well just means more fun welding for me. Occasionally I talk them into letting me MIG weld. Yes it's cold but on these rec boats they want them to have the stack of dimes. Th...

Re: Lincoln Locker - Advice
I've tore down the front axles before so I'm pretty familiar with that and yes in this case I get to tear down both wheels past the spindles down to the knuckles to get the axle shafts out of the diff. From there it's just unbolting the carrier housing and dropping it which should be it's own level...

Re: Lincoln Locker - Advice
YES!!!! I mean, you can't go wrong if you have full manual control right???? But still the crux is I have to drop the pumpkin, pull the diff, and bench weld it. I guess what I can gather out of all this is I just get to set it up on the bench, slide in the axles to ensure maximum possible alignment...

Re: Lincoln Locker - Advice
I love Lincoln lockers. I've made a bunch. On cars that definitely weren't daily drivers. Anyways just drain the fluid clean and spray carb cleaner til it's clean. Turn your welder up and fill it up with weld. Spin it so you can get the other side and fill that up too. I once did it front and rear i...

5th looks like most of that stuff is about .125 ? do you favor 1/8 rod or 3/32? craig It's a mix of anything mostly from 1/8" to 3/8" and sometimes up to 1" All the things in the last post were 1/4" and 3/8" I prefer 3/32 rod until it's something like a 1/4" outside co...
