Re: Shopping for Metal Sucks

Did some shopping today and well it seems I am getting the best price for new steel in the DMV. MS wanted $175 for 2 sheets of 16ga hot so I went to Posner and spent about $60 less with 3 cans of green paint to kick the frog.

Re: Shopping for Metal Sucks

Bambi Mittens.... I like that  After all these years and all the different stuff I've tried, I've found I prefer to weld with cheap-o goat skin bulk-pack work gloves from Fastenal. I rarely wear long sleeves unless I'm migging overhead, stick welding, or plasma cutting. I just give my arms a g...

Re: Shopping for Metal Sucks

Realize that most guys that think they know everything about something or think they know how to do something, rarely do. I think its extremely rare that you see someone here saying "I am the best welder in the area" or just "I am really good at welding" OR "I have been wel...

Re: Shopping for Metal Sucks

I've met a lot of people that are very well educated but not very smart, from a practical point of view.   Yeah, give me a heads up even if it is an hours ride I can get a trailer full if the price is reasonable. Poland308 I get the :?:  :? or  face everyday from the cou...

Re: The true cost of getting started in the welding trade

HARBOR FRIGHT, there I said it. I learned on a 90amp HF arc box. From there I moved to the Flux wire unit. It works well for building BBQs, trailers, gates, handrails, window bars and fabbing up other smaller item under 1/4 thick. I use their cheap 4.5" grinder and some good lincoln wire. For a...

Shopping for Metal Sucks

So as I am watching builds on YouTube and surfing the web. I notice lots of folks getting either killer deals on thousands of pounds of steel or they have a magic Scrapyard that just so happens to have 4 tons the good stuff at $.001 a pound. I have used Posner, Brothers' $teel works and Metal Super ...

Re: Entry Level Multi Process Unit

cj737 C. Livingstone and Farmwelding Thanks for the input. I reviewed the suggested rigs and it seems I need to sale my wife and one or two of the kids, don't worry I have a lot of them. Those rigs are SEXY as all get out but the $1000 ceiling is carbon reinforce ultra high strength cement that curr...

Entry Level Multi Process Unit

Hi All, I have been using Harbor Frights 120 welders for about 7 years and they are so cheap when a new model comes out I sell off the old to get new. I have been holding out thinking that they would put out something on par with other generic manufacturers. It looks like it is not going to happen f...

Hi, I'm Tom. :) I enjoy making things out of metal. :D At times this addiction of mine causes me to neglect my wife. I like the smell of steel and the way it feels to build something from nothing. I am a weekend welder. :ugeek: I hope that joining this group will help be become a bet...
