Re: Welding video source for beginners
Thanks for the link; I'll have to check out his channel. I took a quick look and it appears that his wood vids are very detailed and very long (or at least in several parts). Looks like he has some interesting wood projects.

You go inside the cage. Cage goes in the water. You go in the water. Shark's in the water.

Re: Weld to plate laying on concrete - bad idea?
Welding on embed plates happens all the time. Concrete is sensitive to heat, but you anchors should have a significant embedded length that it won't matter. You should weld the base plate on your posts first and then shim the middle of the underside of the base plate and rock it into plumb, tighteni...

Best Meme Ever
The rugged look of a mountain man. The dramatic zoom. Finally comes the pause and the nod, accompanied by a slight smile. It's the best "ok" or "will do" meme of them all.

[/quote]Thanks WirelessG - I am assuming you're saying it's running hot because of the black slag? Good feedback not to bevel the edge, i'll try that next time around. it feels like beveling the edge *does* create a a larger gap to fill - which makes my blow through way worse. Thanks for this video ...

Re: URGENT Vertical Uphill Thick Metal Help
I'd preheat the trailer part. It's going to be a pretty big heat sink and the weld will cool pretty quick (relatively). AWS stipulates a preheat and interpass temperature of 225F for material over 2-1/2".

Re: Newb Welder Question on Wire Welding Square Tubing
Check your voltage and wire feed speed. It looks like you are running hot and you are going to want to run as cold as you can. Are you running innershield? No need to prep/bevel the joints on that thickness since you will get full penetration (in fact, you're better off not to bevel them so that you...

Well, then, in that case I'll hijack my own thread in an a suggestion section. Watch this video on burning lightening into plywood using microwave transformers. I really want to try it, but I'm terrified by electricity and that's a lot of volts.

"Everything Else" Forum Section
I wonder if it would be a good idea to create a new forum section for everything else; everything not welded. For example, I am in the process of building a temperature controller fro my smoker. I think others might be interested in this project, but there's really no place for me to post it.

045 liner on 025 wire
I've only ever welding with 035 on my wire feeder and was thinking about trying 025 on a special project. I wonder if I can get away with using the same liner that's installed now. Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Tungsten Sharpening
I saw it on Ebay, and it looks pretty good since you can use most any dremel/rotary tool with the correct thread. One day I'll set one up, but my go-to method is still a basic 6" alum-oxide grinding wheel on a $40 skil bench-top grinder, or a Harbor Freight 3" mini grinder with the polish...

Re: How to drill a 1.5" diameter hole
A step bit will give you a clean hole. However, at 1-1/2", it will be hard to find and expensive. 1-3/8" is easier to find if you can reduce the diameter a little bit. Buy Milwaukee, Klein or Dewalt. The non-name brands are fairly useless.

Re: What happened??
I've had my gas stop on me in the middle of a weld. I could hear it flowing when I started up, but after 10 seconds or so, it quit. The next day it wouldn't flow at all. Seemed to be a pedal issue. I also noticed that sometimes the valve on my regulator closes on it's one. Don't know why; ghost mayb...

Welding Book
I think a good book would be where a bunch of welders are on a ship, looking for a whale. But they never find that whale. And do you know why they never find the whale? The book doesn't say; it leaves it up to you, the reader, to decide. Then at the end there's a page you can lick and it tastes like...
