Re: Small portable welding table
I really really want a lathe in the garage, but then I need a bigger garage. But if I get a bigger garage then I can get a mill and some other tools we "need". As I say to my wife: "I only buy things we need". Then, probably the new garage will be to small and we need a even bigg...

Re: My winding road into TIG welding
Working on the initial design of the frame. I need place for the Fronius and possible a cooler that will arrive at some time in the future. Place for the welding mask. Place for a few rod holders and bits and pieces. Now I will sit down with a beer, study and think. If, after the beer, it still look...

Damn what I wouldn't give to see that everyday flying around helping people. Such a blessing it must be to see that beauty and help people. That is one hell of a gig you got. And on top of that, you weld. You have a damn good life. Thank you, Farmwelding :-) Pretty happy with the way things turned ...

Re: My winding road into TIG welding
Long story. Here is the short version. Been doing this for almost 30 years. Was involved in a car accident in 85 as a passenger. Norwegian Air Ambulance came to pick us up. I guess that was when I decided to do this

Re: First welding project
Nice work for your first job, you built a mighty fine piece. With your base now being open it would be a breeze to add a coolant system to your saw, your blades will last 2x as long or more. A 115Vac sump pump, 5 gallon bucket, window screen, rubber hose, and galvi sheet metal to make a catch pan. ...

Re: My winding road into TIG welding
If you are sliding your hand at the table it is good to cut a piece of fire blanket, fold a few times and put that between hand and table. Makes movement soo much smoother. Seen the pipe support I and others have built? Great help when you can't slide right on the table. When fusion welding I like ...

Re: My winding road into TIG welding
Try doing short runs and just practice dabbing in rod. And weld towards yourself so that you are working your way towards the filler, that way you can hold a longer length of rod stick out and make a longer bead.. Feeding rod is the very last skill to come. Once you have the muscle memory and skill...

My winding road into TIG welding
Another day, another dollar spent. Yesterday I emptied my first 11L Argon bottle. Here in the land of the Vikings you have to buy bottle sizes up to 11L. One bottle will set you back something like $ 500. When the first one you bought is empty, you exchange it in for a new full one. In principle jus...

After the frame was done it was back to practising again. Playing with the spot function on the welder. Jody recomends double the normal welding amps for the piece you are welding and .5 seconds when using the spot function. This worked like a charm, but the two pieces has to have a very good fit. I...

The first proper project was a stand for a metal band saw that I bought. The original stand was pressed sheet metal and rather flimsy. It was also to low for my liking. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170131/0ab95fc43851dd24e78f1868b048ab2b.jpg After demounting the original stand I did some measu...

Now, Erik uses Fronius TIG welders in his shop. So I figured; good enough for him, good enough for me. I contacted Fronius Norway and ordered a Fronius MagicWave 2200. This will weld 5 mm alu, which is probably the thickest dimension I will use for my bikes. For bashplates and the sorts. https://upl...
