Hello all ,I'm just a hobby welder. a couple of days ago, welded some angle iron to a brake rotor. took a hammer to it, and it separated. used 6011 electrodes and the temp. in the garage was at 32 degrees. any ideas? here's a pic.

Depending on tip size there are fixed cut rates. Cutting by hand is a bit more art than science. Looking at the slag profile left on the cut edge and looking at the profile of the cut edge will reveal if your moving too fast or slow. Post up some pictures. well, tried the 6011 and sure enough, burnt a hole. was able to patch it up using 6013's. just welded everything up with the 6013's. it just needs to hold the bike up, not support a building. only have a stick welder for the occasional hobby welding thanks for everyone's input.

the tubing is is just a tad thicker than 1/16th and the flat stock that I'm welding it to, is 1/8th. I'm trying to shorten the kick stand and also enlarge the foot print area so that the kick stand doesn't sink in the black top during very hot days. Thanks

hello all, have a oxy-propane set up for cutting. I'm no expert. but is there a way to determine if you're moving too fast or slow? sometimes, I have to go over what I just cut through. other times there appears to be excess slag. Thanks
