Handlebars and Sissybar
I had some .120" wall 1" tubing, and 5/8" solid round bar and a downed bike, waiting on parts, so why not make some new bars and sissy bar? I am still learning to TIG tubing, and the welds aren't exactly pretty but they are solid. 20180217_233830.jpg 20180218_140831.jpg 20180221_22084...

Re: Tig welding on tubing and round parts
The absolute thing that people new to welding need to be taught is that, unless you are walking the cup or welding big plate and pipe, you don't very often go too far with out stopping.(Instagram does not help with this at all) On big items, you can prop or rest the cup and a few different tricks, ...

Re: Christmas came early!
I just played around with the Gas lens kit and the same E3 tungsten I have been using and what a difference! SO much easier to weld with the shorter nozzle. I will grind up a 2% lanthanated tomorrow and give it a shot. The 3/32" rod is a bit nicer to use on thicker steel also. I can't wait to t...

Christmas came early!
So the beloved UPS guy came to the door with some packages from Amazon. It consisted of 10# of Blue Demon 3/32 ER70-S2, 2# of Weldflame 3/32" 4043, Midwest tungsten service 3/32" 2% Lanthanated Tungsten and a stubby gas lens kit. Time to hit the garage and do some damage!!!

My cart
Made a cart for my new machines. It was all scrap I found by a dumpster. I wanted a cart that held both bottles and machines side by side. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161010/4cc4e02aadbd3054da6a9f602206781f.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161010/29d9390e04a29117a80fd068eb6cfe88.jpg http:...

Re: First attempt at aluminum........
Thanks. I started quenching towards the end, and I will get some 3/32 rod- it just seems logical that it will help control the heat a little more. I guess I need to let up on the pedal a lot more at the end- in other words, pay more attention to what the puddle looks like vs how much I "should&...

Re: First attempt at aluminum........
Played around a little more last night, and it is coming down to it cannot outrun the heat. I'm going to try some 3/32" and maybe 5356 filler. It supposedly doesn't wet out as easily as 4043, I guess I'll find out.....

First attempt at aluminum........
So I just bought the Lincoln SW200 and I am learning to TIG. Today is my first time with aluminum, and it is one hell of a learning curve. WAY different than steel. 3/32" E3 tungsten sharpened to a fairly blunt point, 120hz, balance at 73%, 1/16" 4043 filler rod. I started with bead on pla...

Which chopsaw or Bandsaw would you get?
I need something in my life- a better way to cut metal. I am just a garage hobby guy, and I like to tinker with just about everything. I am collecting enough stuff to make a new table and cart, but I need soemthing that will cut consistent angles on angle, round and bar stock. I am thinking a chopsa...

Re: Harbor Freight Portaband Saw Stand With On/Off Lock Bar
Try the Jim Beam 1795, fantastic. Cheers Never heard of Jim Beam 1795. Is it available outside the US? Blanton's is my absolute favorite, along with Four Roses single barrel and Booker's in the next two. EVERYTHING I try gets compared to Blanton's, and it still remains my all time favorite. (Even c...

Re: Just got my new MIG and TIG!
Good to know about the cheater. Ill try it and see what happens. I had about an hour of free time tonight, so I sat down and started laying beads on a piece of 2" 1/8" wall square tubing scrap. I'm getting the rhythm and manipulation of the pedal down a little better. I have a LONG way to ...

I am having fun with it! Need lots of hood time. I'm a burbon drinker, but I always wind up with a bottle of Gentleman Jack around the holidays. Not sure why, the flavor just says Christmas to me. Yeah, my wife says I'm weird too.....

Re: Just got my new MIG and TIG!
Got some gas today, and tried to make some welds both with and without filler. Since the LWS I went to didnt have any tig rod (WTF?!?) I took some .030 ER70S6 mig wire, doubled it over and twisted it up with a drill, then cut it into 18" pieces. Not ideal but it was all I had. Probably should h...

Re: Just got my new MIG and TIG!
The bottles are over twice the size as the little HF bottles, and there are no damn used bottles around here. The only one I found was a 300CF, that I dont want to move around the country. Still active duty army for a couple more years at least....... The shops here would only do one year leases for...

how to make an adapter from 4 prong dryer to 3 prong welder
As the subject says, I need to make an adapter that goes from a 4 prong 30A dryer outlet to plug in a 3 prong extension cord for my machines. I live in military housing so tapping into the electrical panel and running another outlet is out of the question. There is one lonely 110v outlet in the enti...

Re: Just got my new MIG and TIG!
Congrats on the new toys. You can use Mig wire to Tig with if you want to play. Find another LWS...Air Gas sucks. If you haven't realized it yet, you will pretty soon. Yeah, they do. But they will do the initial swap for the bottles with no questions asked. All the other LWS are twoce the $$$ for g...

Re: Just got my new MIG and TIG!
Yeah, but for $100 each the deal couldn't be beat. Airgas will swap them right over the counter for $20 and $28 for argon and C25. Way cheaper than leasing. If I ever get heavier into it, ill find some bigger bottles.Rick_H wrote:Congrats, that sounds like a nice deal. Those 55 tanks will not last long,

Just got my new MIG and TIG!
I was one of the lucky ones to order Lincoln's Garage pack. If you are not familiar with the deal, for $2599 you get the MIG 210 and Square Wave 200 then get a $599 rebate. Long story short, both welders for 2K. I also now have 2 55cf bottles from USA weld, a ton of wire, stick electrodes but no tig...
