new DVD

Jody,

As always, great work. You have a true gift...glad you share it. Checked out your son's website...I'm sure you are proud of him...good man. As a father I know that we pray that we raise them right and turn out better than ourselves.

Re: My first open roots

when you get to the end of the joint, backstep about a 1/4-1/2" and that will help that crater hole. Make sure to feather yours tacks..and make sure the sparks are on the other side of the plate or pipe. Watch that keyhole...try to keep it the same size. Looks good for 6 weeks

If you do decide on an auto dark, its an investment if you are a serious welder. I've had my jackson for 7 yrs now...paid 300 then..i only got one set of eyes. And gold is good

Re: inter-pass grinding?

yep, it sucks but you gotta be a good grinder first! Make your movements kinda slow...7018 does not like to be disturbed so to speak. Hold on the corner until you see it tie-in and keep bouncing...if your bead is humping up, don't spend alot of time in the middle..you'll see that puddle pull into th...

Re: welding 6013 - problems

drag it. get it right and 6013 will lay a nice bead. i'd bump it to 1/8 inch or get some 3/32 7018 if i was welding that. i use 6013 for light applications....i'd use another rod for your splitter

Re: pipe welding machine preferece

ya, i'm lucky enough to work at doing something i love. You'll have to experiment with different sizes of pipe..2" will heat up quick...i usually tig that but, there are some that use 5p root and 7018 fill and cap.

Re: pipe welding machine preferece

maybe a 1/16. make sure to clean good between passes. Depending on the job, the cap is done with 3/16 or 5/32...side to side..burn in the sides.

Re: pipe welding machine preferece

What kind of gap are you using? If i'm fitting, i'll use a hacksaw blade for my gap from 95-110 amps for 1/8. Each machine will run different. Doesen't matter if it's a sa-200 or a ranger 250. Try dragging your downhill root and make sure to run in front of the slag.
