Just a Note to Jody...
On this Thanksgiving day I just wanted to say thank you for the educational videos you've provided over the years. I have learned alot about welding but even more about a craftsman a stand up guy and his ability to not only teach, but selflessly share and to learn. Again, a heartfelt Thank you and H...

Re: New Guy, New Welder, New questions
Well thanks to you guys i think I've made some headway! I attached the work clamp (ground) to the actual work instead of the table and it made a noticeable difference. The initial crackle disappeared! The second most notable change was just metal prep. It appears to have caused the arc to be much mo...

Re: TIG welder recommendations
Miller, Esab and Lincoln make some awesome machines! Can't fault Gurew's response at all. I on the other hand went with one of the asian machines (Everlast) and have been well pleased. The price was right, the machine capable and tech/support excellent. It was a great decision for"me"! Nop...

Re: TIG welding Aluminium, Not melting smoothly
I am very much a novice, in fact probably the least experienced here. But on my machine I usually reduce the arc gap to fix this (distance between workpiece and electrode). Also, remember that the arc melts the base metal and the weld puddle melts the filler. One other thing that might be contributi...

Re: New Guy, New Welder, New questions
Sarge, Rugar,
Thanks for the suggestion(s). I'll try it today. I think I'm also going to try clamping the workpiece to the table to see if that has an effect as well.

Re: New Guy, New Welder, New questions
Davidep82 you are exactly right the a/c balance is 30-70% and The first attempts cleaning action was considerably wider and didn't seem to be affected by increasing or decreasing the A/C balance. Now after trying again it does seem to have a noticeable effect. As to the arc start issues, When you wa...

New Guy, New Welder, New questions
I have the PowerTig 225LX and have been playing since yesterday morning. I have learned some stuff but now have even more questions for you learned types. Some of this stuff may seem really stupid, but I'd rather ask than keep wondering. First the machine settings: 30 amps, AC, 2T-w/torch switch, Pu...

Re: Starter Consumables for a Noob?
Soo, when I head down to my local welding shop with my list, is there any manufacturers that you folks recommend I steer clear of?
Should brand even play a part in ones decisions when shopping for consumables?

Starter Consumables for a Noob?
Howdy all, Just got an Everlast 225LX delivered this past friday and I can't wait to start learning! I wasn't able to get a bottle of shielding gas lined up so I guess I'll have to wait a while to play with my new toy (I work away from home Mon-Fri)! I did get my 220/60 amp service in the garage com...

Just signed up!
Just a note to say howdy and to introduce myself. I'm not a welder but do some hobby machining. It seemed logical that if i have all these tools for cutting metal (table top vertical mill and lathe, cold cut saw etc.), that I probably need to figure out a way to put metal back together also! I've go...

Re: Aluminum Air Compressor Connecting Rod Repair
You could possibly ream it out oversize and press in a journal/bearing. Might be a tad stronger and would likely be more durable. great weld repair Jakeru!
