Any advice on back stitching? Want to avoid warping as much as possible. Start from the centre and back stitch both ways or one end to the other?
Cheers.

Re: Stainless steel tank.
Nah mate, it's above ground so has to be free standing, water level is about 1300mm.
Thanks for the feedback Coldman. more or less how I would have designed it.

Hello guys, Building a stainless steel grease interceptor, 5000l, dimensions are 4300L x 900W x 1600H. Going to have to be in two halves and have minimal bracing on the inside. Has to be done in two halves, bolted together in a flange kind of setup, then I am lap welding a strap over the middle join...

I have done a bit of research and looking for some advice. Potentially have to do 2000 of these to do. What I have made is a mock up of something like its going to be. Apparently the load is max 5kg on these parts (bit short on details of where the load is) Now the drawing calls for the parts to be ...

Yeah mate, was BOC, must have just got them as I've never seen them before. Gave it a crack on some thick stuff I had at 30cfh and results were a bit underwhelming compared to what I can do with a 6 stubby. Wasn't quite in the groove, have to see when I get my hands on some 1.6mm It's not the best ...

Did a search and rubber melts at about 180c ..not sure if torches are a special kind of material but that loctite at 230c should be right....over thinking it now!

Re: CK no.12 Pyrex to 17 torch
Nice but l wonder if the torch temperature exceeds the release temperature of the loctite. It may do but the worst thing that could happen is my reducer gets stuck in the torch and I have to use plyers to get it out. I think these are 120amps max and not meant to be used on A/C. Given that I will b...

Hey guys, Before I start I know Jodi sells the FUPA no 12 kits in the store with an adaptor for a 17/26, however being in Australia the cost of getting one here with our dollar and shipping I just could not justify the cost vs how much I would use it. I know he also stocks CK stuff I found out after...

Re: High Frequency - HF Start Bypass
MinnesotaDave, possibly. When I was newer to welding I remember trying that on accident with a Miller machine. It just kept trying to melt the tungsten to the workpiece though so I haven't done that since. That is how I found out that you can use a TIG wand as a stick electrode holder though....

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Hey Rick, While we are on the topic, how many amps are you running on the pipe, and what is your gas flow on the purge? Do you use a foot pedal or just a switch? I started using a foot pedal, and was getting used to it, but had a frame job recently and didn't want to drag the pedal around so went ba...

Thanks for the input guys. Re the heat shields, I am just doing what I have seen done before and what the owner asked for. Ex Framie: would like to hear your input on where heat shields might be needed. Thinking I am far enough away from the block/gearbox to not have issues, but we will keep an eye ...

Re: Motorbike exhaust.
Haha, sorry. Got that wrong. Its a SR500. Got the 300 mixed up with 500 and hp mixed up with cc. I'm more of a boat guy so always thinking in HP. Think its more like 31.5hp. Anyway from my research 304 seems the go. The plan is to run the pipe between the tranny and seat and end up just before the r...

G'day guys, I know there are a few people into bikes on here so I was going to ask a few questions. I am building a simple exhaust for a old Yamaha 250hp single cylinder bike. I thought 409 was the go for exhausts but there seems to be a fair few people using 300 series for exhausts. I have a good s...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Decided to use the stainless box I welded up and posted a few pages ago and make a purge box similar to Jody's. At the minute I don't have a proper dual flow meter yet (on its way), just a little flow control off a pneumatic cylinder. I think I may be a little low on the flow, as I notice a lighter ...

Didn't have any proper work on so spent the weekend messing around in the shed doing the 'ol can and razor blade exercise. Had some trouble blowing through the cans until I got everything dialed. Pretty new to using a foot pedal so it felt like it was beneficial having to actually work it a bit. IMG...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
G'day guys I made up a chiller block similar to the one Jody made from copper, only I used aluminium and milled off the corner. Wasn't planning on it but it worked well as a way to prop the cup on to maintain a constant arc length, which can be a pain on corner joints. Also probably helping trap a b...
