Re: Still practicing

Thanks, I'll try to start alternating hands. I may need to order more tungstens before I attempt using my left hand though

Still practicing

Still practicing those beads, I'm finally finding a comfortable position and not putting all the weight of my body on my right wrist. Still have a ways to go but I'm happy with it, this week I will pulling the wire from the house to the garage for the 220VAC Ckt.:) http://i961.photobucket.com/albums...

Re: My 1st little project, Bicycle frame rust repair

Hey Keith. That is just like the kinda project I would have taken on not long ago. My version was to make a motorcycle race stand out of an old steel tube office chair. The similarities I see are that neither of us were prepared for the level of corrosion inside the tube (mine wasn't quite do bad) ...

Re: My 1st little project, Bicycle frame rust repair

That whole section is bulged meaning its got rust all the way round. Best thing would be cut a 3" or 4" section of tube out and weld a new piece in. Could be chrome moly. This was just for practicing, the entire bike is in super bad shape that is why it's back in the bulk garbage pile for...

My 1st little project, Bicycle frame rust repair

Hi All, we have a trek bicycle laying around that had a broken/rusted piece of tubing from the inside out and is in the bulk garbage pile so I decided to give it a shot and see if I can fix it. The damaged area. http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae99/InfernoST/IMG_0183_zpsh8nw0nms.jpg Damaged area ...

Re: EXT210 My First ever beads.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely finding it to be a challenge to get into a comfortable position and do find myself out of position pretty quick, something I have to work on. One thing for sure is I'm enjoying the learning process, i find my time behind the torch calming & relaxing.

Re: EXT210 My First ever beads.

i'm a newbie as well. Your and my "welds" look at lot alike. We both need a lot of practice. Nice to know I have company. :) :) Yep, Yep, need lots practice. I so much enjoy it. I will try to get some more seat time tomorrow. You should post up some pics of your welds, you'll get lots of ...

Re: EXT210 My First ever beads.

Not bad. Now you just need seat time and you will be good. In regards to frying electronics...I can't be sure it was the HF start on my welder that affected my phone but the 2 times my digitizer went bad, I had my phone on my welding table or in my pocket. The digitizer is the thingy that lets you ...

Re: EXT210 My First ever beads.

Regarding HF and welding on vehicles/bikes; I welded a new front subframe tab onto a CBR600RR a week or two ago. Attached ground clamp just a couple inches from area I was welding on. Used HF start. Quite a bit of welding time on the bike, lots of stopping and starting. Repair now finished, bike st...

Re: EXT210 My First ever beads.

why are you using lift arc? I tried the HF start and found it to work a treat but I thought it was safer to use lift arc on vehicles so I figured I would start with the more difficult way to start the arc. You can use HF on vehicles. Some guys will tell you to disconnect the battery before you weld...

Re: EXT210 My First ever beads.

That's fine for just practicing and getting the feel/hang of things. I bet it took long to get that puddle initializes on 0.187" with the amperage that one usually uses on 0.060-0.080". :) Practice is key to get a good consistent rythm going. Finger and hand dexterity go a long ways to cr...

EXT210 My First ever beads.

Hi Gang I got the EXT 210 up and running and ran my very 1st couple of beads without filler material using lift arc start so I can get used to how to do it. Below is a pic of what I put down. The top 3 were done at 60amps with the bottom 2 adjusted to 65amps. The steel is 3/16th. Looking forward to ...

Re: Tungsten Sharpening is this OK????

Here is some grinding information - might help you out if you don't already know this stuff. Also, in general, with a given grind angle, the larger the flat spot ground on the tip, the more penetration. That's what the 2nd pic is showing with the 0.125mm and 0.500mm slides. image.jpg spot on plate....

Re: Tungsten Sharpening is this OK????

I bought the diamond wheel kit from HF but decided against the grinder because I almost forgot i had a mini lathe. There is a lot of runout using the diamond wheel with the supplied arbor so I figure sometime over the weekend I will make a new one out of 316 stainless. http://i961.photobucket.com/al...

Re: Tungsten Sharpening is this OK????

Sorry for the crappy photo, It is ground longitudinal, I'm going to try laying beads on mild steel until i get the feel for it then try aluminum. I should be picking up my Argon tomorrow and the 220 line should be done by next weekend. I can only use 120vac for now. Looks good, if at some time you ...
