i started on 230 the lowerd to apx 180. ac balance 95%en 60Hz freq. 120Hz is a good all around seting, i use higher onli on 1 mm and evan than mostly if its corner joint. 1 mm is hard on low Hz. foot control. not a must but helps alot!!!!!! try 180 190 when its cold and u can lower the amp for the b...

Re: Amps advice thick to thin?
the position of the pieces is relavant to your comfort. do on verticl and on horisantal.... and one 45 :) .....see what works for you. no one true way. as far as filler i would stay with 2.4 if u have better beeds on longer runs try to go extre slow at first, dab filler only to keep the puddle stabl...

Re: Stainless never shines
the reason u dont want gray in the weld is because u cant always tell if it wiil clean up. aim high its ok,
its what i do anyway. and in some jobs i loosen up.

Re: How do I prevent tungsten contamination and discoloratio
when u dip youe tungstan in the puddle it changes the way the arc flows trough it. so insted of focused arc it spreads al over and u have to put more amp which heats up the metal way more than you should. as jody says in on of his videos "in order to get better, get as much "under the hood...

Re: Solar Flux B Review
Yes its supposed to replace purging. A tin of the stuff is cheap so I thought I try it out that's all otherwise I would have welded like you say. In this case its an r&d item for use in the shop, not for customers so the finish really does not matter. But its good to explore new ideas and techn...

Re: Amps advice thick to thin?
had the same problem this week. 15 mm plate to 3 mm tube. couple of things i do before i weld (learnd from weldingtipsantricks.com ). 1) dry run and position so u can run all the way stedy. 2) try to move 3 mm every second. 3) focus the arc on the thick part. if the thick part is the verticl one the...

Re: dull looking beeds on aluminum and amp related question
If you have access to a cylindet of helium to mix with your argon you will achieve a hotter arc and puddle so you can weld easier and also be able to introduce more cleaning action. Jody shows how to do this and there is plenty of discussion on the forum too. Search helium. i bought a small cylinde...

thank you all for your answers.big gear head wrote:Looks like a pretty good job to me. Are all of the pieces made of the same alloy?
the plate and the suports are 6061 and the tubing is 6063.
my welder is vary borderline on this thick aluminum so i'll probably go for a 350amp one.
