Re: Mig Vs Stck for project???????

It worries me slightly the fact your asking this as it implies an experience level on the low side considering the weight & potential of injury should this thing fail in strong winds or such like - but despite some slightly off hand comments from our more jovial regulars if the church is happy ...

Re: Mig Vs Stck for project???????

First, good on ya for using your skills to make this for your church! I like the square tube turned 45* idea. As to which process, either way you're going to want full penetration welds. It may turn out that the place you weld it in drives that decision: outside in the wind? Stick. Back at the shop...

Re: Mig Vs Stck for project???????

Or maybe even dual shield? I know I'm making a simple project complicated but I like to experiment to keep things interesting. I've never run spray arc on anything thinner than 3/8" and have never run dual shield at all. So what dual shield wire would you recommend to run with C25 gas???

Mig Vs Stck for project???????

Hi. So I'm gonna be building a giant cross for my church. When done its gonna be 12' tall made out of 8" square tubing 3/16" wall thickness. The tubing will be turned 45^ so that while facing it you are not looking at the flash surface but at and edge. The bottom vertical piece will be not...

Thanks for the feedback. Yep, I see you like Everlast quite a bit. :D Have you used it to weld very lightweight material (iron, steel, aluminum)? I've used it on everything now. Heavy Steel and aluminum and a bit of stainless. Thick and thin. Love that machine. I'm gonna build myself a water cooler ...

I would take a look at Everlast. I've used high end millers and lincolns and I honestly believe for the money you can beat Everlast. Just look at my signature to see how much I like them :D

Tungsten Brand???

In a perfect world Diamond Ground Tungsten wouldn't be so expensive. So does anybody have experience with cheaper brands like ABN, Weldcity, etc...??? Wat about MIG wire? Anybody have some experience with the smaller name brands? I know you typically get what you pay for and bad consumables can caus...

http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-4-gal-Wet-Dry-Vacuum-WD4070/202077241 I keep this one on my work truck. It's about the height of a 5 gallon pail. And works great. I use the hepa cartridge filters and bags. Keeps that fine red boiler dust from coming out the vent hole. Good stuff. I have thought a...

Re: Organizing Torch/Gun consumables???

I wouldn't say I go crazy with stuff but I do buy consumables in bulk. Cheaper and since I tend to make stupid mistakes like break a cup or something I hate not being able to finish because I don't have a replacement. Im mostly looking for something with draws that I can mount on the wall or sit on ...

We've got one too. I made the mistake of suggesting that my wife use it on a chore, and now she has a new "favorite" vacuum. You're right about storage. Ours is big and doesn't fit anywhere very well. I would say the biggest improvement they could do for this vacuum in A. make it more blo...

Rigid Wet/Dry Vacuum

Hey yall I just bought the Rigid vacuum MN: WD1451 and I have to say it is nice. I'm kinda OCD and like my shop to be clean before beginning a new project. This thing works really well and i used it in my truck too. A lot faster and less work than dusting things off and sweeping. Highly recommend it...

Re: Milwaukee portable band saw

I have a Milwaukee Portaband and I frekin LOVE it. Clean cuts, hardly any metal wasted, and if you just have some patience and cut a little slower the blades can last for a long time. I was going to make a stand for it but I think I am just going to buy the SWAG Offroad one.

Thanks Thatoneguy. The Miller tech says they run their machines off their generators, but he wold not certify it 'clean power'. I see your Everlast collection. As far as I know "clean power" just means non-fluctuating... But im probably wrong. So if you're going to run a plasma on a Engine Driven Welder I would just make sure nobody else is using the generator at the same time as you. Bobcat uses the same generator for welding and the plugs. As o...

Re: Why I have never trusted wire welding

While wire welding can have lack of fusion... A lot depends on the operator I think... Over time you learn to see if its penetrating or not. And you have to consider short circuit, spray transfer, etc...
