Re: Erratic arc
Do you have a magnet anywhere near what you're welding? Like holding 2 pieces together? i've (and im pretty sure many people have) welded with magnets less than an inch away from my weld zone and i've never seen any magnet screw up a weld like that at 10 amps, though thats just me. unless he owns a...

Re: Erratic arc
Noticed you said you put a gas lens kit after, then it started welding all weird, not beforehand, so 2 things one of which might solve your problems, at my school I was welding with 20cfh and had no problem without a gas lens, when I went to put my own gas lens on it the arc was basically doing what...

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?
Now for the part that no one else touched on...MAKE SURE YOU GO TO A PROFESSIONAL SHOP!!!! hope this helped a bit! it actually helped a good amount, you confirmed what i thought, to get places that could be easily covered up until you get a secured job, then you may move to more visible locations,a...

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?
But you did ask the original question, so you must have realised you mightn't like all the answers. . faiyly decent point, i didnt mind your opinion, i just didnt like the part where you said all tattoos where nearly identical and people only do it to try to stand out, because (and i dont seem to b...

not to ridicule everyone with a tattoo. But hey, you're right, they're fine art and right up there with the Mona Lisa. Don't forget to let us all know how much you make when you sell one of your tattoos on to a collector. [/quote] id value ink more than the mona lisa to a certain extent sir, if im ...

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?
these near-enough identical tats on people trying to "look different". there are many, many more reasons people get tattoo, to permanently put something meaningful, or weather its just art they love, you should look closer and keep an open mind before assuming, the people who do it because...

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?
Tattoos are a bit like real estate... "Location, location, location." As already stated, you should be able to completely conceal them in a reasonable dress shirt. "Curb appeal." Anything that shows when in short sleeves should be tasteful. I.e. not gaudy, sexual, or otherwise o...

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?
i know that many of you call 'tattoos' in welding are the burns you get, which leave a permanent scar, but this isnt that. i'm at the moment 18,thinking of getting some tattoos in the future,i find them beautiful when done right,so i want to get many, most likely legs, arms and back. and i was wond...

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?
As an old timer, I haven't seen the logic in tattoos. Is it because it makes one feel unique in this crowded world? Why go through the expense of disfiguring your body unless you think your body is unacceptable as it is? Piercing seems to follow the same thought process. Of course, it is your body ...

. This kind of stuff is gold. If there is any chance of a future video showing more slo-mo footage like this, with particular reference to the way welds 'draw' the parts, I'd be keen to see it. not sure if you have seen this video or not, but i found it fairly useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: tig welding practice, any tips?
Nice looking beads! You are definitely getting there. But, things will be better if you get the mill scale off before you weld. Makes for a much cleaner weld. I know it's not critical for practice-but try to develop good habits to start with. Hope this helps. its cold rolled, not hot rolled, :| i c...

Very good! Better than I have seen from guys around here who claim to be pro's and "have 30 years of experience" No smoked metal this time and your stack a dimes in just about there. You are now a Tig welder 8-) :D thanks, nice to see results after you work hard at something! only thing i...

Re: tig welding practice, any tips?
Consistency isn't too bad - several toe areas did not wet out (tie in) to base metal - looks like not enough amps. Stay 125 or above on 1/8" and motor out - faster travel with more amps puts less total heat into the piece. It's a balance, you'll nail it eventually :) I tell people that after t...

Re: tig welding practice, any tips?
It's not really the frequency per say, but it all has to do with the bead profile. You definitely don't want a concave bead. You don't want too much convexity either. Both compromise the strength of the weld. You want a little bit of convexity with a nice, smooth tie-in at the toes of the weld. Ok ...

Good job. You have the moves down but a couple of your pics show smoked metal. You gotta move along and never linger or you smoke your base metal. A few look MUCH better color. You got it brother...a little more seat time and you're there. which one looks smoked? the butt joins looks like it now th...
