Re: Long post: Dynasty and Weldtec i-head questions

So no failures to start if I change the tungsten when I contaminate it.
I'll watch the error log to see what that was about.
Thanks,
Todd

Re: Long post: Dynasty and Weldtec i-head questions

I go through 3 or 4 electrodes in any given hour because I am not very good, so that's an interesting question.

I will watch and see if it happens with a newly ground electrode.

Thanks!

Re: Long post: Dynasty and Weldtec i-head questions

Thanks, if the hose jump is just because it's shorter, I won't worry about it. I may swap the two dinse connectors at soe point just to see if maybe there's a narrow spot in the new one that I can't see. On the arc, I'm only welding in DC on mild steel. 120amps most of the time. Ground is good, and ...

Long post: Dynasty and Weldtec i-head questions

I have a couple of issues lately with my Dynasty 210dx and possibly with my new weldtec torch. I don't believe the Dynasty issues started right when I changed the torch. I also don't know if they started before or after we had a brief 20 second power outage while I was welding. On the Dynasty, about...

Re: Should I get another Dinse connector for my new torch?

LOL. It sure can, but I'm trying to be frugal. You won't remember but I got the Dynasty package from a Nascar team for 3600 with 54 hours on it and a 1 year warranty. Pretty sure you were one of the members who confirmed it was a good deal back when I was shopping for my son. I'll grab a second Dins...

Re: Should I get another Dinse connector for my new torch?

You can make superflex lines and add the connectors yourself? I didn't know that. With the extras they put in the ihead deluxe package, the 12.5' superflex hose set only cost around $40 more than the torch stuff without the hoses. Really the hoses are 0 extra if I use the price of the weldtec parts ...

Should I get another Dinse connector for my new torch?

I have a Miller 195377 Dinse connector on my TIG machine (dynasty 210), with a red hose that goes to the water cooler. I just ordered a weldtec i-head ball end torch and plan to swap out my weldcraft w200. I don't know how to remove the current Dinse from either the machine or the flex hoses that ar...

Re: Need to cut 60-70 5/8" holes in 1/4" steel

I had seen that website and read a little about them, Tweake. It's a big step up in price and I can't tell what the differences between a lot of their machines are, but maybe I'll give them a call. CJ737, The hole saw I linked to is about as close to an annular cutter as a hole saw can come, but wit...

Re: Need to cut 60-70 5/8" holes in 1/4" steel

BiMetal hole saws that small can make 60-80 holes in 1/4" steel? On the mill, I liked that mill as an option because it seemed like the best on available that I could fit easily. There was one in the UK that seemed nice, but it would be harder to ship and parts could be an issue. Who makes a be...

Need to cut 60-70 5/8" holes in 1/4" steel

I have a 25 year old belt drive benchtop drill press with quite a bit of run-out, but it might work with one of these: https://www.ohiopowertool.com/brands/cs-unitec/cs-unitec-annular-cutters-mag-drill-accessories/cs-unitec-2-series-extra-heavy-duty-carbide-tipped-hole-cutters/cs-unitec-2-1-120 I co...

Re: Home Shop Ventilation

Then why spend thousands of dollars on a fume extractor when a DIY dust collector and some hepa filters can take out particulates?

Re: Home Shop Ventilation

the problem is all the particles. which is why its not a good idea to have your range hood connected to the hrv/erv system in the house. really need to have a fume extractor which filtered out the particulates. then let the buildings ventilation system do its thing to remove the bad gases. Thanks f...

Re: Home Shop Ventilation

Sorry. I wasn't suggesting using it as a fume extractor. Even a 200 CFM system wouldn't be sufficient for that, but adding a decent sized one to the shop would turn over the air in a couple of hours without losing all his heat which seems like something that would help.

Re: Home Shop Ventilation

HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilators) are solely for efficient energy utilization for producing heat, and have no auxiliary function to fume extraction or ventilation because they merely re-cycle the air through the system. They are part of a forced hot air system. And you should be running either a pre-...

I've always thought the IR tools were pretty solid too. In this case, we wound up with astro pneumatic die grinders and their reversible cut off tool. My son's a lefty at some things, so reversible cut off tool seemed worth an extra $20 or such. Safety... . I did get him Cubitron II cut off wheels b...

Re: die grinders and cut off tool favorites?

I've had them work against me. Using a die grinder, lift up slightly and have the paddle locked, then get it pushed back in and in the process end up with a gouge in my material, depending on what type of bit/cutter I'm using. Good point. I'll remind him not to rely on the safety to prevent acciden...

Re: die grinders and cut off tool favorites?

I ordered him astro pneumatic die grinders and and an aircat cut off tool. After handling them, he actually preferred how the switches with safeties felt, and he likes the idea of having a safety. die grinders and cut off tool favorites?

I'm very excited today because I have an excuse to buy some new tools. My son got the recommended personal tool list from work and it has 2 die grinders and a 3" cut off tool on it. They just recommend the central pneumatic versions, which range from $10 to $18, and I suspect those are fine too...

I used muriatic acid to remove mill scale from 2x2 square tubing and some 3/8 bar stock a couple of weeks ago. Just small pieces under a foot long to practice welding on. They were fine to mig weld after 15 minutes using 50% or so mix of myriadic acid. $5 in acid and $2 of baking soda to neutralize ...

Re: shop vacuum cleaner

Hi Oscar, Yes, the mini cyclone. Those work surprisingly well for a shop vac, but are not fun if you are trying to move it around a lot. So you either use a really long hose or mount the cyclone and the collector on a dolly. My wood shop DC is a 5hp cyclone version plumbed to my all wood tools, and ...
